This diwali make Indian traditional sweets at home.Gulab jamuns made with milk powder are realy delicious.
Gulab Jamun
To make 18 to 20 gulab jamuns
INGREDIENTS: Dried milk powder -100g Melted ghee-2 tbsp Plain flour-3 tb Baking powder-½ tsp Milk-100m Almonds-1 tbsp Pistachios-1 tbsp Sultanas-1 tbsp ground cardamon-.½ tsp Oil for deep frying.
FOR THE SYRUP: Granulated sugar.250g Water-200ml
METHOD:
Sieve the flour and milk powder into a bowl.
Add the baking powder, ground cardamon and finely chopped almonds, pistachios and sultanas.
Mix together then pour in the melted ghee. Continue mixing and add the slightly warmed milk.
Leave to rest for 15- 20 minutes. Knead this and divide into 18 - 20 even balls. Heat the ghee. Make sure that it is to temperature but is not too hot. Cook the Jamun very gently turning constantly.
If the oil is at the correct temperature, they should rise after a minute or so. Keep turning the Jamuns until they are a golden brown all over.
Remove from the oil and allow to cool. dissolve sugar in water and make a syrup by boiling it. When the syrup is completely dissolved, drop in the Jamon and simmer for 5 minutes. Squeeze them gently so they soak up the syrup.
Serve immediately or chilled.
