Easy Herb and Onion bread Recipe

Ingredients for Herb and Onion bread
  • Whole wheat flour (atta) 4 cups
  • Fresh Yeast 20 gms
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Milk ½ cup
  • Butter 60 gms
  • Onions 2 medium sized
  • Salt 1 ½ tsps
  • Mixed herbs 1 ½ tsps

Method to prepare Herb and Onion bread
Crumble yest into a cup and sprinkle sugar. Add two tablespoons of warm water and mix until smooth.
Set in a warm place for ten minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
Heat milk in a pan gently. Remove form heat just before the milk begins to boil.
Chop butter, drop into the milk then add three-fourths cup of warm water.
Leave it for ten minutes or until the butter has completely melted and the milk is lukewarm.
Peel, wash and finely mince or grate onions.
Put flour and salt into a large basin. Add herbs and onions. Mix thoroughly.
Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture. Mix with a light hand. Knead into a soft dough with the milk mixture.
Cover with a damp clothe and leave it in a warm place for two hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Apply oil to tow bread tins of four hundred fifty grams capacity. Knead dough once again and divide into two equal parts.
Shape them into loaves and place in tins. Cover and leave for fermenting for forty-five minutes or until the dough has almost doubled.
Preheat an oven to 180o C.
Place bread tins in the preheated oven and bake for forty-five minutes at 180o C. Increase the heat to 220o C and bake for further twenty minutes.
Remove from tins and cool on a wire tray. Slice and serve fresh and warm.
